Operator Licencing & VOSA Audits

For a number of years we have been assisting goods vehicle operators when they decide that they need the payload benefits of the larger goods vehicle. For vehicles over 3.5tonnes this necessitates an Operators’ Licence with its various obligations.

For a number of clients we have handled the preparation of the GV79 application and the necessary newspaper advertisement.  Where necessary we can also offer advice on the location being considered as the operating centre and whether the client’s financial strength will meet the requirements of the Traffic Commissioner. Contributions such as these can sometimes prevent delays later in the application process.

Later after the licence has been granted your needs may change. More vehicles and/or new operating centres will require revisions to the Licence. Some changes may constitute major changes to the Licence and require additional approval from the Traffic Commissioner. We can help here as well if you wish.

The obligations of the Operator Licence are rigorous and require a sustained approach to standards and procedures. These are monitored initially by VOSA.

Unfortunately even the best intentioned operators may fall foul of the complexities of regulations pertaining to paperwork procedures, drivers’ hours and maintenance standards. These are important issues and if left unaddressed may lead to a Public Enquiry before your Traffic Commissioner. Should that happen then we can offer assistance and advice at the hearing. If fault is found then we have in the past handled audits required by the Commissioner to demonstrate that deficiencies have been rectified.
